Walking

Not sure which is the best way to walk to work or for other local journeys?  Then visit Walkit.com. This site allows you to put in your start and finish point and will give you a map, a route and a time to your destination. It will also give you how many calories you’ll burn and how much carbon you have saved.

Leisure Walking

Yes we have the Peak District National Park on our doorstep, but we also have over 80 parks and numerous woodlands to explore and walk in. The city council provides ideas for walks of all abilities.

In Sheffield, the Ramblers and Sheffield City Council have the Get Walking Keep Walking campaign going . Download the 12 week plan booklet

There are also age related walking groups that organise regular walks in the city and Peak District: The 20s and 30s have a group  and so do the 40s.

Cycling

Are you one of the 42% of people that own a bike? Would you like to use it more but feel unsure about routes, safety and maintenance?

Pedal Ready offer FREE two-hour cycle coaching sessions for all. The session covers a bike check, bike maintenance, choosing the best route or dealing with traffic, however it’s up to you what you want to focus on.

For repairs and maintainance of your bike you can go see the Bike Doctor, with sessions across the city, funded, in part, by the council. The Bike Doctor carries out a basic safety check and where possible makes minor adjustments. They can, in some cases, make minor repairs – but it’s not a full-blown repair service.  They can also advise you on significant faults and give you a rough estimate of cost. For details of the next sessions see the regularly updated Dr Bike page.
